Sony Mobile denies recent rumors of division's sale
Two weeks ago, Sony CEO Kazua Hira in an interview said to Reuters that the company may exit smartphone market because of its struggling mobile business which faced stiff competition from Asian rivals and Industry leaders like Apple and Samsung.
Now, Head of Sony Mobile division Hiroki Totoki told Le Figaro (French newspaper) that the division is not being sold and "It's completely untrue"
Hiroi Totoki believes that Sony Mobile division needs to re-evaluate its strategies in order to get back on track. This will involve narrowing down the division's protfolio and slow down in future handset and tablet launches to adapt to consumers who don't upgrade their phone to new model every year.
In addition, Tim Harrison, Vice President of Global Communications & PR at Sony Mobile in an interview to UK- based Uswitch website said the what Kazua Hira "basically saying was 'look, we're a grown- up company, so we've got to leave all our options open."
Harrison also said that the CEO has no intention to get rid of the mobile division. He was quoted saying "He was not saying, at all ‘we are up for sale’. Categorically, we are not up for sale,"
