Lava forayed into the laptop market earlier this year with the Helium 14. And now it is expanding its Helium laptop line up with a new entry-level model dubbed Helium 12.
The Helium 12 features 12.5-inch HD (1366 x 768 pixels) display and is powered by Windows 10 Home and 1.88GHz quad-core Intel Atom x5-Z8350 Cherry Trial processor paired with Intel HD graphics. It comes with 2GB DDR3 RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage can be expanded via microSD card, and HDD slot, that supports up to 1TB HDD.
The connectivity duties are handled by a USB 2.0 port, a USB 3.0 port, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth. It is fueled by 10000mAh battery for prolonged usage, and weighs 1.31kg. It also has a webcam for video calling.
The Lava Helium 12 has been priced at Rs. 12,999, and will be available via both online and offline stores in Silver and Gold colors.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is teaming up with Micromax and Lava to offer mobile handsets at low cost to its customers with bundled voice and data combo plans.
The state run telecom operator said that it coming out with bundled offers for the handsets manufactured by Micromax and Lava with BSNL SIM card. It is currently working out on the cost and plan details. Unfortunately nothing else is known at the moment.
The announcement comes just days after it was reported that Micromax and BSNL are teaming up to launch an affordable 4G VoLTE feature phone called Bharat One.
BSNL's move comes as a counter to Reliance Jio's 4G-VoLTE enabled feature phone called JioPhone, which is available effectively free of cost. In recent time the telecom operator to compete with Jio has been launching affordable voice and data combo plans for its prepaid customer to enjoy more benefits.
It recently launched a Rs. 249 prepaid plan (ending October 25, 2017) that offered unlimited local and STD on-net calls and 1GB data per day for 28 days. Before that it launched Rs. 429 plan, which offered unlimited and local calls to all networks + 1GB data per day for 90 days.
Apart from BSNL, Airtel is also said to launch affordable 4G handsets priced below Rs. 2,500. Nokia is also showing interest to launch 4G feature phone as well.

Lava's latest offering is a "smart" feature phone and it comes with one special feature. Called Lava 4G Connect M1, the feature phone supports 4G and VoLTE (Voice over LTE). This means if you have a Relaince Jio SIM card, you can use it with Lava's 4G Connect M1 to make calls and browse the internet.

In a bid to boost digital transaction, Indian Government has asked local manufacturer to launch sub-Rs. 2,000 smartphones in the country to reach the rural population. The government is asking local smartphone manufacturers including Micromax, Lava, Intex and Karbonn to manufacture affordable low-cost smartphone to bring electronic transactions to the masses.
Economic Times citing sources related to the matter states that currently only local manufacturers have been approached for the project. However, Micromax, Lava, Intex and Karbonn are yet to announce their plans to launch sub-Rs. 2,000 smartphones.
The report also says that the government's aim is to allow transaction for all Indians from anywhere. For this the government is pushing smartphone manufacturers to launch 20 to 25 million handsets into the market, and has ruled out subsidy for the initiative. Instead companies will have to come up with solutions to bring the cost of the smartphone down.
For the current government, Mobile payment system is a key for digital shift. Recently, the government launched BHIM (Bharath Interface for Money) app, a platform for digital transaction, that connects 31 major banks using UPI. It has been downloaded more than one million times.
Currently in India, 3G smartphones are available for as low as around Rs. 2,500, while 4G smartphones starts at Rs. 4,000.
