Xiaomi enters Guinness Book of World Records for Selling 2.11 million phones in a day


China's largest smartphone maker Xiaomi to celebrate the company's fifth anniversary, hosted a twelve hour 'Mi Fan Festival 2015' across seven countries in Asia yesterday.

Today the company announced that it has set a new Guinness World Record for mobile phone sales. The company said it sold 2.11 million handsets within 12 hours during the festival. The previous record was held be Alibaba's Tmall which sold 1.89 million handsets in November during a 24-hour event.

Chief executive Lei Jun posted on Weibo shortly after the event "Good news: Xiaomi just set a new Guinness World Record, selling 2.11 million mobile phones in 24 hours, This is beyond my imagination, The new record has been certified by the official Guinness World Records and examined by auditor PricewaterhouseCoopers"

The company also sold 72,000 units of smart appliances, 247,000 set of power strips, 208,000 units of Mi Band, 79,000 units of Mi Wi-Fi and 38,600 units of Mi TV. It also sold 403,000 power banks, 336,000 Mi Piston earphones and 3.12 million units of Mi air purifiers. Xiaomi earned a total revenue of 2.08 billion Yuan ($330) from sale of its products in 12 hours.

Some other facts - A total of 3.05 million orders were placed in total out of which 500,000 orders were delivered within 12 hours via 12 major distribution centers in China. The company's 1800 service centers in China answered more than one million queries from the customers with 1,460 employees said to have worked during the sale.
