BlackBerry Leap with 5-Inch full-touch display launched in India for Rs. 21,490

BlackBerry has launched its latest all touch smartphone, the 'Leap'  in India. It was initially announced at this year's MWC in March as the successor to Z3. The Leap offers mid-range specs and is targeted at young professionals.

BlackBerry Leap appears to be an upgraded version of Z3 which was powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and 1.5GB RAM. The Leap offers a slightly better processor, more RAM, upgraded camera and a large battery.

The BlackBerry Leap features a 5-inch 720p HD display and is powered by the rather outdated 1.5 GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 (MSM8960) processor with Adreno 225 GPU. The processor was earlier seen in the Z10 and Q10 smartphones, which were the first BlackBerry smartphones to be powered by BB10.

The handset packs 2GB RAM, 16GB of internal storage and a microSD card slot, which supports up to 128GB of storage. The Leap runs on BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 out of the box with BlackBerry Assistant feature and Amazon app store to download Android apps.

Camera features include an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and can shoot 1080p video at 30 frames per second.  On the front, it has a 2-megapixel camera. Connectivity options include support for 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 LE and GPS + GLONASS

The battery under the soft touch back cover is 2800mAh and is non-removable. BlackBerry claims that the phone can last up to 25 hours with heavy usage. The Leap measures 9.5mm, weighs 170 grams and comes in Grey color.

The BlackBerry Leap is priced at Rs. 21,490 and will go on sale via BlackBerry exclusive stores across the country starting May 12.

Commenting on the launch, Sunil Lalvani, Managing Director, BlackBerry India said-
"The BlackBerry Leap was designed specifically for the young power professionals who see their smartphone device as a powerful and durable productivity tool that also safeguards sensitive communications, while on-the-go. With BlackBerry Leap complementing the latest BlackBerry portfolio, including BlackBerry Passport and BlackBerry Classic, we continue to provide products and services that meet the needs of our consumer and enterprise customers."
