Nokia 222 and Nokia 222 Dual SIM internet-enable phones announced
A feature phone is a mobile phone that incorporates features such as the ability to access Internet, store and play music but lacks the advanced functionality that we see in smartphone today. They are basically low-end mobile phones, simpler to use, battery lasts a day and is sturdy. They do not run on OS, but often runs apps based on Java ME and BREW.
That being said, Microsoft has just announced Nokia 222 and Nokia 222 Dual SIM, an affordable internet-enabled feature phone. Both phones come with the same set of specifications. They support Micro-SIM cards and runs Nokia Series 30+ OS.
Nokia 222 and 222 Dual SIM features 2.4-inch QVGA (240 x 320 pixels) LCD display, T9 keypad and sports 2-megqapixel fixed focus rear camera. There is a microSD card slot for storage expansion up to 32GB. Other features include 2G, GPRS, Bluetooth 3.0, Micro-USB, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The phones are fueled by 1100mAh battery that delivers up to 20 hours of talk time; up to 21 days of standby time (dual-SIM model) and up to 29 days of standby time on single-SIM model; 45 hours of FM radio play back and 50 hours of MP3 playback. They are offered in Black and White colors.
The phones come with built-in MP3 player and also has the popular flashlight feature. They support Slam technology which allows sending and receiving files with another Slam-enable devices. Some of the pre-loaded apps include Opera Mini Browser, Bing Search, MSN Weather, GroupMe by Skype, Facebook, Messenger and Twitter. Users will be able to download one free Gameloft game per month for a year.
The Nokia 222 and Nokia 222 Dual SIM prices start at $37 (Rs. 2,465) before local subsidies and taxes and will roll out globally in select markets starting September. The Nokia 222 Dual SIM is already listed at Microsoft India website.
