Xiaomi Mi Protect insurance service launching in India soon

Xiaomi will soon introduce new insurance service plans called the 'Mi Protect' in India. The new service plans will cover Mi devices in case of accidental or liquid damages, offer free home pick up and drop facilities and a free second servicing within one year of activation.

These plans will be priced Rs. 275 for Redmi 2 and Redmi 2 Prime, and will cost Rs. 499 for Mi 4i, Mi 4 and Mi Pad. Xiaomi has partnered with OneAssist to provide the Mi Protect insurance plans for its devices in India. These insurance plans are available only on products purchased via Mi.com.

Insurance will be covered if the damage to the device is caused by accident, liquid, falling, collision, if the device is under protection. In case your device is damaged you can call toll free number (1800 407 333 333, 1800 123 3330 or 0 8080 333 333) to put in an insurance request. The company will then verify if the damage is genuine and is covered under these scenarios before picking it up.

The Mi Protect insurance plans will also offer other services like SIM blocking in case your device is stolen, a SIM misuse insurance covers of up to Rs. 3,000, 1GB free storage from Docusafe and assistance for new smartphone users with a range of tasks including managing emails, languages and managing various settings of the their devices.

Xiaomi also offers the same service via its exclusive service centers in the country. Xiaomi Redmi 1s, Redmi 2, and Redmi 2 Prime users will have to pay Rs. 425, Redmi Note 4G users have to pay Rs. 549, Mi 4 will have to pay Rs. 899 for the 16GB variant, Rs. 999 for the 64GB variant, and Mi 4i and Mi 3 users will have to pay Rs. 749.
