OnePlus Type-C accessories safe to use with OnePlus 2, not compatible with other devices

Recently, a Google engineer said that the OnePlus USB Type-C adapter is not fit for use with the Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P smartphones and Pixel C Marshmallow tablet. At that time OnePlus did not respond to the issue, but last week OnePlus came out with a statement that says its USB Type-C Cable and microUSB to Type-C adapter are safe to use with OnePlus 2 smartphone, but may not be perfectly safe to use with third party hardware and may cause damage.

In a blog post OnePlus said- "Our cable and adapter use a 10 kiloOhm resistor, but according to version 1.1 of the Type-C port standard, these products should be using a 56 kiloOhm resistor. The issue is that the cable and adapter are designed for a maximum of 2 amps of power, but the resistor will allow fast-charging devices to try to draw more power than a power source may allow. This could result in damage to the power source (third-party charger, USB port, etc.) if the device and power source do not have an internal mechanism to self-regulate the amount of power flowing to or from them,”

OnePlus also said the it received lot of feedback regarding these products from customers, and the brand is working on developing improved cables and adapter that will be compatible with USB Type-C devices. OnePlus stated that they are developing USB Type-C cables and adapters that meet the 56kΩ standard.

OnePlus is accepting the mistake and is offering full refunds for customers who purchased the USB Type-C cable or adapter for their phones. However, you won't get refund for the cable that came bundled with OnePlus 2.
