Photos of Microsoft's cancelled McLaren surfaces

Photos showing prototypes of a high-end Microsoft's canceled Windows Phone code named 'McLaren' have surfaced online. The photos show the prototype of McLaren next to older Windows Phone for comparison including Nokia's camera-centric Lumia 1020.

The photos show the rear side of the McLaren that is black in color and purportedly made from aluminum, focusing on the huge camera bump. The camera is a 20-megapixel PureView Carl Zeiss lens.

The main highlight was its '3D Touch' technology, which allows users to navigate through the Windows Phone OS, without touching the display.  It was also expected to bring new UI features to Windows Phone such as exploding tiles, which allows users to view quick action by hovering over the live tile on the start screen on the device.

The McLaren was supposed to be a follow-up to the Lumia 1020, featuring a similar huge camera. Microsoft decided to kill its development in July 2014, a few months before it was planned to release. The reason is not known.
