Windows 10 Mobile update for older Lumias delayed till Early 2016

The Windows 10 Mobile roll out for Windows Phone 8 & 8.1 devices was expected to roll out this month, but that is no longer the plan. Microsoft has officially confirmed that the Windows 10 Mobile update roll out, will begin early 2016.

A Microsoft spokesperson stated: “This November we introduced Windows 10 to phones including brand new features such as Continuum and Universal Windows Apps with the introduction of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL. The Windows 10 Mobile upgrade will begin rolling out early next year to select existing Windows 8 and 8.1 phones.”

The company has not offered any explanation, but we can assume that Microsoft wants to ensure that Windows 10 Mobile is fully ready for mass usage, before the roll out. At present Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL and Lumia 550 ship with Windows 10 Mobile and the company is reportedly working on a fourth Windows 10 Mobile device, the Lumia 650.

For those who want to give Windows 10 Mobile a try, can do so by joining the Windows Insider program and get preview builds of Windows 10 Mobile, though it is not recommended.
