Samsung to produce Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 processor


Samsung will mass produce Snapdragon 820 processor which will be used in new devices this year. Samsung said that the Snapdragon 820 will be produced on its new 14nm LPP (Low-Power Plus) process, the second generation of the company's 14nm FinFET process technology.

It also announced that it has started mass production of its latest chip the Exynos 8 Octa 8890 SoC that also uses its 14nm LPP process. According to Samsung the new process incorporates a three-dimension FinFET structure on transistors, offering up to 15 percent performance boost and 15 percent less power consumption over the previous generation.

The upcoming Samsung Galaxy S7, Xiaomi Mi 5 and several other flagship mobile products are expected to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 SoC. At the recently concluded CES 2016, Qualcomm revealed that the LeTV Le Max Pro (now LeECO) will be the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 820 processor.
