Sony's Xperia Z range of smartphones is no more, Xperia X series to take over

Sony will be replacing the Xperia Z series with the newly announced Xperia X series. Sony at MWC 2016 introduced three smartphone as a part of the new Xperia X series, the Xperia X, Xperia XA, and Xperia X Performance. Out of the three, the Xperia X performance offered the kind of specs, you'd expect from a 2016 flagship.

So the question is will Sony release the Xperia Z6 ? The answer is no. Sony has also confirmed this. Sony Mobile Germany replying to a user, confirmed that there won't be a next Xperia Z smartphone, as the lineup will be replaced by the Xperia X. Sony also mentioned that the rumored Xperia Z6 will not exist as the 'X' series will be taking over.

Sony Mobiles (global) has also come out with a statement confirming the replacement of Xperia Z series with Xperia X. “The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”

Therefore, It is safe to assume that the Xperia X Performance will be the new flagship for Sony this year. The Xperia X Performance sports a metal body with rectangular chassis, rounded edges and 2.5D curved glass on top. The specs include a 5-inch 1080p display, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 23 MP rear camera (w/ Predective Hybrid auto-focus, 5x Clear Image Zoom), 13MP front camera, fingerprint sensor and 2700mAh battery.
