LG unveils Android Marshmallow-based UX 5.0 user interface for G5 and upcoming phones
Ahead of the LG G5 global launch, LG has unveiled its UX 5.0 custom UI for Android. The LG UX 5.0 is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow, and in addition to the G5, will also be arriving on upcoming LG smartphone models as well. The UX 5.0 comes with LG Friends Manager app, enhanced camera, new home-screen, improved Always-On display mode and more.
The LG Friends Manager app, detects nearby LG Friends (CAM Plus, Hi-Fi Plus, 360 CAM, Rolling Bot) and connects them to the G5. It also automatically downloads all the required apps for LG Friends to work with the phone from Google Play Store.
UX 5.0 also brings enhanced support for G5's camera. Users can switch between the standard 78-degress lens to 135-degree wide-angle lens, capture different angle of images at the same moment using rear and front camera, set 360-degree panorama shots capture by LG 360 CAM as wallpapers, capture shots from both standard and wide angle lens to create a picture-in-a-frame effect, pinch-based zooming and Auto Shot - an enhanced Gesture Shot for selfies.
The new UI adds new home-screen, which removes the app drawer and now all the app are placed on the home-screen, something we have already seen in China handsets like Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, LeEco Le 1s, Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus to name a few.
The LG Health app has been updated and now has Beginner and Advanced mode matched to the user's profile. Lastly, the UX 5.0 also brings features like World Clock, upgraded always-on display, Smart Doctor, File Manager, Quick Help, Diverse Security Method for fingerprint recognition and LG Backup.
LG has also released a video to demonstrate UX 5.0 user interface and key features. Unfortunately, LG has not revealed that if its existing smartphones apart from G5, will get the UX 5.0 update.
