Lenovo's sub-brand ZUK coming soon to India

Lenovo's sub-brand ZUK is set to make its debut in Indian smartphone market soon with the Z1 smartphone. The brand has also set up a dedicated website, and is expected to launch the Z1 next month.

For those unaware, ZUK is an online-only sub-brand of Lenovo that was launched in August last year and is targeted at the youth. The Z1 was the brand's first smartphone priced at CNY 1799 (Rs. 18,000). In India, ZUK will compete with its other Chinese counterparts including Huawei, OnePlus and Xiaomi, and Indian vendor Micromax and YU.

To recap the specs, the ZUK Z1 had a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS display, Snapdragon 801 SoC, 3GB RAM, 64GB internal storage, 13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera, USB Type-C, fingerprint scanner, 4G LTE and 4100mAh battery. The out-dated processor aside, the rest of the specs are impressive.

The ZUK Z1 (China variant) runs ZUI based on Android 5.1 Lollipop and is upgradable to  Android Marshmallow, while the international version comes with Cyanogen OS. However Cyanogen has an exclusive license with Micromax sub-brand YU in India, so it'll be interesting to see how that works out.

The brand yesterday launched it's second smartphone, the ZUK Z2 Pro.
