Windows 10 Anniversary update will be arriving officially on August 2
It's official. Microsoft has announced that the Windows 10 Anniversary update will arrive on August 2, 2016, and will be a free update to everyone running Windows 10. The Redmond giant also announced that Windows 10 is now running on more than 350 million devices.
From today, only one month remains for users to take advantage of the free Windows 10 upgrade offer which expires on July 29, a few days before Microsoft will roll out the Anniversary update.
Microsoft first announced Windows 10 Anniversary update at Build 2016 conference. The update brings improvements to Windows Hello login feature, Cortana voice assistant, Microsoft edge browser, Widows Ink and more. Microsoft also shared details of the upcoming update.
Security features
Windows Ink – new Windows 10 feature, enables you to write on you device, as you do on paper, and will be able to create sticky notes or draw on a whiteboard
- Windows Hello will support Windows apps and Microsoft edge
- Improvements to Windows Defender – scheduled quick scans; notifications & summaries when scan is completed or threats are found.
- Windows Defender (enterprise customers) gets two new feature – Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection (WDATP) to detect, investigate and respont ro malicious attack by providing threat intelligence and attack detection; Windows Information Protection helps seperate personal and organizational data and helps protect corporate data
Cortana
- Quickly and easily take a note, sketch on a screenshot, or draw an idea.
- Smart Sticky Notes help you remember common tasks like reminding you of flight times or offering directions using Maps.
- Key apps have new ink-specific features, like using handwriting in Office, ink annotations in Microsoft Edge or drawing custom routes in Maps.
Microsoft Edge will get new extensions such as Pinterest’s “Pin It Button,” Amazon Assistant, AdBlock, Adblock Plus and LastPass
- Cortana will be available above lock screen, and you can do things like ask question, play music, set reminder and more without unlocking the device
- Save and recall key information like frequent flier number, where the car is parked at the airport and more
- Offer notification across all devices with Cortana support – share directions across device or from text or messaging services on your device.
