Apple is reportedly working on AR smart glasses

According to a new report, Apple is considering to push into smart glass territory. Bloomberg citing sources familiar with Apple plans, says that the Cupertino giant is working on its very own AR smart glasses.

The smart glasses would pair with the iPhone wirelessly like the AirPods, and would display images and other contents in AR (augmented reality), which is quite similar to Google's smart glass, which it stopped developing in 2015.

The report further states that Apple has contacted potential suppliers and ordered small quantities of near-eye display from one supplier for testing. If all goes well, we can expect the smart glass to be released in 2018.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has time and again expressed interest in AR and VR technology. Apple also has AR patents for things like street view in mapping apps, and was also awarded patents for smart glasses that make use of full-fledged virtual reality. Moreover the company has a full team dedicated to AR and VR research on how these technologies can be used in future Apple devices.
