Reliance Jio to launch 4G VoLTE enabled feature phones with unlimited voice and video calling under Rs. 1,500


Reliance Jio has gathered a lot of popularity within just months of its commercial launch, one of the main reason being VoLTE enabled LYF branded smartphones which is available in market for as low as Rs. 3,000. However, in order to reach more consumers, Jio might be launching ultra-afforabe 4G VoLTE enabled feature phones, reports Economic Times.

These feature phones will run Android and offer non-touch screen display with numeric keypads, instead of full touchscreen display found of LYF smartphones. Initially, two feature phones will be launched in Q1 2017 (January, February, March) and will be priced affordable at Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 1,500, making them the cheapest 4G VoLTE phones.

Reliance Jio is reportedly working with domestic phone maker Lava and China’s Transsion which operates under the Itel brand for manufacturing the feature phones. For VOLTE support, these feature phones will use chipsets that Jio may source from Chinese company Spreadtrum, although talks are on with Qualcomm and MediaTek.

The feature phones will have cameras on front and back, and comes with unlimited voice and video calling. It will also come pre-loaded with Jio'o app suite which includes apps such as Jio Chat, Live TV and video on demand and Jio Money Wallet, Jio’s digital wallet service

With the latest move, it appears that the Jio is targeting rural areas and trier III cities to expand its subscriber base and meet its ambitious goal of 100 million subscribers.
