Reliance Jio brings Pokemon Go to India


The most popular location based augmented reality game Pokemon Go has finally released in India, thanks to Reliance Jio. The teleco has entered into a strategic partnership with with Niantic, publisher and developer of the game, to bring the mobile game to the country.

With this partnership, thousands of Reliance Digital store across the country will function as Pokestops and Gyms in the game starting December 14. In addition Pokemon Go player will have access to an exclusive channel on JioChat social messaging app, that will offer daily tips, contests, clues and special events via a dedicated community for the game.

Moreover, Pokemon Go player's on Jio's network can play the game without worrying about data charges, thanks to the Happy New Year offer, which gives unlimited data until March 31, 2017.

For those unaware, Pokemon Go is an AR game based on popular animation TV show Pokemon. It uses Geo-location to place Pokemon across important landmarks and areas in cities. The game requires a smartphone with camera, GPS and data connection. To catch a Pokemon, a player will have to walk around the city and when they find one, the Pokemon will appear on the smartphone screen, after which player have to swipe the screen to throw the poke ball and catch it.
