Samsung Galaxy S8 will not have 3.5mm headphone jack and home button

This year a few smartphone makers like LeEco, Motorola, HTC and Apple have ditched 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of USB Type-C. Now according to a new report from SamMobile, Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S8 will also not feature the standard 3.5mm headphone jack.

Instead it will deliver audio via the USB Type-C port, and if you want to use your old headphone, then you will need an adapter to do so. One of the advantages of removing 3.5mm audio jack is that that Samsung can make the Galaxy S8 slimmer, while also freeing up space inside for a bigger battery. On the downside, you won't be able to charge the phone and use the headphones at the same side.

Besides delivering audio, USB Type-C port will also enable fast charging technology and faster data transfer speeds. Moreover, the phone will be compatible with Samsung's new Gear VR headset that houses USB Type-C port for connecting to devices.

In line with earlier leaks, the report mentions that Galaxy S8 will have the same 2K resolution screen as Galaxy S6/S7. However, the Super AMOLED display panel will be made out of a new material, which will consume less power and offer longer life. The Galaxy S8 will also axe the physical home button and the fingerprint sensor will be embedded inside the display itself, making it the first device to feature optical fingerprint identification.

According to earlier reports Samsung's Galaxy 8 will arrive in two models: 5.7-inch edge model with curved screen and 6.2-inch model with bezel-less display. Both model will feature Snapdragon 835 processor, 6GB RAM, 256GB internal storage, single rear camera, front camera with auto-focus, stereo speakers bearing Harman branding and a new artificial intelligence assistant called Bixby.

The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be unveiled in February before MWC 2017, Barcelona kicks off.
