iPhone 8, Galaxy S8 to reportedly carry highest IP68 water-resistance rating
A report by The Investor suggests that the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S8 and Apple's iPhone 8 will have the highest level of water and dust resitance rating. These phones are said to carry IP68 certification, which means they can survive in up to 1.5 meters of water for up to 30 minutes.
“Apple’s iPhone 8 will feature the IP68 rating protection as part of drastic upgrades marking the 10th anniversary of the iPhone this year,” an industry source told The Investor
Samsung's Galaxy S7, the discontinued Galaxy Note7 and Galaxy A 2017 series all are IP68 rated. The iPhone 7 on the other hand, has IP67 rating which means in can stay under one meter of water for 30 minutes. It's worth mentioning that even though iPhone 7/ 7 Plus are water-proof, Apple doesn’t cover for liquid damage.
The report also says that Samsung and Apple will use waterproof tapes instead of adhesive to protect their devices. Additionally LG (on G6) and some other Chinese device maker are also expected to add IP68 feature to their upcoming smartphone as well.
