Samsung Galaxy S8 poses for the camera; possible specs, launch date and pricing revealed
Samsung's upcoming flagship, the Galaxy S8 has had a massive leak, bringing lots of details including a live photo, launch date, specifications and pricing courtesy of Evan Blass (via VentureBeat citing The Guardian's recent report). Corroborating with earlier reports, the new report suggests that Galaxy S8 launch will take place on March 29 at a dedicated event in New York.
The Galaxy S8 will arrive in two models ― a 5.8-inch display variant and one with 6.2-inch display, both powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 825 processor (in some markets), while in-house Exynos chip will be powering few other models. As both the chips are based on Samsung's 10nm process, Galaxy S8 will offer faster processing, faster graphics processing and improved efficiency than Galaxy S7.
Both 5.8-inch and 6.2-inch display variants will sport QHD Super AMOLED screens, giving 83 percent screen-to-body ration along with an unusual 18:5:9 aspect ration. Both will also have 'edge' display, unlike the Galaxy S7 series, which has a flat screen and and curved screen (Galaxy S7 edge) models.
The Galaxy S8 will also get Apple's 3D touch-like force touch functionality on the lower part of the display, and will be able to differentiate between soft taps or pressure put on the display. As Galaxy S8 will have a bezel-less design, there will be no Home Button on the front, which usually housed the fingerprint sensor on previous Galaxy S models. Instead, the fingerprint scanner will be located at the back of the device, next to the camera sensor.
The Galaxy S8 will come with 4GB RAM (no 6GB as rumored earlier), 64GB native storage, and there will be a microSD card slot for storage expansion. In terms of camera, the Galaxy S8 will sport 12MP f/1.7 dual-pixel rear camera and an 8MP f/1.7 front facing camera and will boast visual search functionality. For instance, OCR-enable web searches on photographed text or a shopping-site search for products of interest.
Other features include USB Type-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack and an Iris scanner at the front. The 5.8-inch display variant of Galaxy S8 will pack 3000mAh battery, while the 6.2-inch variant will come with a 3500mAh battery.
The Galaxy S8 series will launch with Android Nougat with a unique feature called Samsung Dex, which is the company takes on Microsoft's Continuum, allowing users to connect the smartphone to a monitor via HDMI, for a full edged PC experience, complete with mouse and keyboard. Samsung's rumored digital assistant Bixby will also make its debut with Galaxy S8, which will be able to handle complex commands.
Now coming to the pricing part, according to Blass, the Galaxy S8 series will be priced 100 Euro higher than Galaxy S7 series, with the 5.8 version expected to carry a price tag of Euro 799 (Rs. 58,000), and the larger 6.2-inch version expected to be priced at Euro 899 (Rs. 65,000). Both variants will go on sale April 21.
