Huawei P9 to get Android Nougat this month (March)

A few days after unveiling its latest flagship the P10 and P10 Plus (running EMUI 5.1), Huawei has announced that it would begin global roll out of Android 7.0 Nougat with EMUI 5.0 to the company's last year flagship, the P9 in Q1 2017, without revealing an exact roll out date or which region will get it first.

Since March is the last month of Q1, it is safe to assume the Nougat update will roll out this month. Moreover Huawei India's Twitter handle says, the update is "coming soon", so the roll out can be expected in the coming days.

However, as the Nougat rollout is global, it will take time to reach all regions, so some P9 users will not get the update in March. The China units of Huawei P9 has already received Android Nougat back in December. Aside from new Nougat feature, the update will also include the latest security patch released by Google.

The Huawei P9 was one of the most popular smartphones of last year, selling like hotcakes especially in China and Europe. The phone is priced at Rs. 39,999 in India and its main highlight is the Leica branded dual-rear cameras. The P9 features 5.2-inch Full HD display,  HiSilicon Kirin 955 octa-core processor, 3GB RAM/32GB storage, dual 12MP cameras — one for capturing color in light, and other captures monochrome images and 8MP front camera. Other features include 4G LTE, WiFi 802.11ac, fingerprint scanner, NFC and 3000mAh battery.
