Salman Khan to launch his own smartphone brand
If a new report is to be believed, Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan will launch his very own smartphone brand. According to Economic Times, Salman Khan has registered 'Being Smart' trademark for his smartphone venture.
The BeingSmart smartphones will run Android and will cost below Rs. 20,000 and will be targeted at the entry-to-mid level market, where there is lots of action at present. The phones will be positioned against popular Chinese smartphone makers like Xiaomi, Oppo and vivo.
The report says that Salman Khan is looking for investors for his smartphone venture, however, Khan will retain the majority of the shares in the company, either directly or through family member. He is currently building an operational management team to be headed by professionals with leadership stints at Samsung and Micromax. Khan has already finalized the Chinese plant that will manufacture the devices.
Initially the phones will be sold online and through Being Human (Khan's clothing brand) retail stores, and will be later expanded to large format retail chains as part of strategic partnership across the country. A share of the profits from "Being Smart" venture would go towards the charity and social work that Salman Khan does with the Being Human Foundation.
BeingSmart branded phones are expected to hit the market before the festive season later this year.
