World's first thermal imaging smartphone Cat S60 launching in India soon

US based popular rugged phone maker Caterpillar introduced, the Cat S60 as the world's first smartphone with an integrated thermal camera at MWC 2016. Now the company had announced that it will launch the Cat S60 in India later this month (March). However, the exact launch date is not known yet.

The main highlight of the Cat S60 is its FLIR thermal camera which works in tandem with the 13MP main camera to detect heat and measure surface temperature (ranging from -20-degree Celsius to 120-degree Celsius) from a distance of up to 50 to 100 feet (up to 30 meters).

Moreover the phone has a rugged design. It is waterproof and can function underwater, up to depths of 5 meters for an hour, allowing it to be used as an underwater camera. It is also dustproof and MIL-810G certified, meaning it can survive drops of up to 1.8 meters directly on the concrete. Given the rugged design and the thermal camera, the Cat S60 is targeted towards people working in harsh environments or who are involved in extreme adventure sports.

Coming to the specs, the Cat S60 has 4.7-inch HD Gorilla Glass 4 display, Snapdragon 617 processor, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage, 13MP/5MP cameras, 4G LTE and 3800mAh battery. It runs Android Marshmallow and is price INR equivalent of Rs. 45,000, however, the Indian pricing could be much higher than that.
