Here are the key takeaways from Reliance Jio's Q4 performance report
Reliance Jio, the young and emerging telecom operator started commercial operation in India in September 2016. It crossed 50 million subscribers in just 83 days, and 100 million subscribers in 170 days, adding an average 600,000 subscribers per day, making it the fastest growing startup-technology company in the world. Now Relaince Industries Limited (RIL) released it financial performance figures of Q4 / year ended 31 March 2017, along with revealing key details of Reliance Jio.
Here are the key takeaways:
- As of March 31, 2017, there were 108.9 million subscribers on Jio's network.
- Relaince Jio has over 100,000 mobile towers across the country, and promises to add another 100,000 tower in the coming months
- Jio is the only operator which has deployed pan-India LTE network across the 800MHz, 1800MHz and 2300MHz bands, giving it tremendous capacity advantage.
- Within a month of announcing Jio Prime Subscription (one-time annual fee of Rs. 99), over 72 million users signed up for it, making it one of the most successful customer privilege programmes anywhere in the world.
- Jio users consume more than 110 crore GB of data per month and make roughly 220 crore minutes voice and video calls per day, making it the largest mobile network globally in terms of data consumed. The teleco also claims that its users consume nearly as much as all the telecom networks in the US, and 50 percent more data than mobile networks in China. It further said that, this is a “a clear indication that India will adopt digitization and digital life faster than anyone else in the world.”
- Citing TRAI's MySpeed Portal test results, Jio touts that its average download speed in March 2017 was 15mbps, which is two times more than any other telecom operator in the country
- Jio also confirmed its plans to launch Fibre to the Home (FTTH) service in the coming months. Currently beta trails of the service is taking place in few location, and plans to expand the scope of beta trials in the coming months. But it did not reveal the date of commercial roll out.
- Lastly, Reliance Retail's hardware distribution business sold 2.6 million LYF-branded smartphones and JioFi routers during Q4 2016, and nearly 10 million units in the financial year.
