OnePlus 3 & 3T will get Android O before end of 2017

Last month OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T would be getting Android O. Now the company has confirmed that these smartphone will receive Android O update within this year itself.

The information was revealed during OnePlus' Reddit AMA for OnePlus 5, and it said “OP3/3T will receive Android O within this year”, but as usual, an exact time frame was not revealed.

Currently Android O is in testing stages, and is expected expected to roll out in August (or September) to Pixel phones first.

The same was the case with Android Nougat. OnePlus promised to update the OnePlus 3 & 3T before the end of 2016, and keeping it words, it pushed the open beta in December and the stable release to the public was rolled out just hours before New Year kicked off, so expect a similar time frame this year as well. Android O is most likely to be the last major software upgrade for OnePlus 3 & 3T. They are now running Android 7.1.1.

OnePlus has promised 24-month (two years) update cycle for its smartphones. But unfortunate for OnePlus 2, it won't be getting Android Nougat. The OnePlus 2 shipped with Android Lollipop, and was updated to Marshmallow, but did not receive its second major software upgrade as promised by OnePlus. Earlier this month OnePlus confirmed that it has dropped major software support for the device.
