Samsung outs fast, affordable external solid state drives

Samsung has announced its latest external solid state drive (SSD): T5 that will let you carry up to 2TB of files. The South Korean tech giant says the portable SDD is designed especially for content creators, business and IT professionals as well as mainstream consumers to give instant, easy access to data.

The T5 is built on Samsung's in-house 64-layer V-NAND technology, and offers transfer speeds of up to 540mbps, which is up to 4.9 times faster than external hard drives.

It supports USB 3.1 Type-C Gen 2 interface, and is compatible with Android devices, as well as PCs and Macs. It comes with USB-C to C and USB-C to A connection cables, and the drive is backed by AES 256-bit hardware encryption.

The portable drive also boasts a durable design sporting aluminum exteriors with metal finishes, and the company claims, it can withstand accidental dropes up to 6.7 feet. It is light-weight weighing mere 51g, and measure 74 x 57.3 x 10.5mm.

Backed by limited three-year warranty Samsung will sell the T5 in Deep Black (1TB and 2TB storage capacity) and Alluring Blue (250GB and 500GB storage capacity) colors. The price starts at $129.99 (Rs. 8,360) for the base model with 250GB storage capacity, and the external drvice is now rolling out globally.
