OxygenOS 3.6.1 for OnePlus 2 brings October security patch, KRACK WPA2 vulnerability fix

OnePlus has already confirmed that OnePlus 2 won't get Nougat or any other future OS upgrade, but promised to roll out security patches and bug fixes. That said, OnePlus is rolling out a new update to the OnePlus 2 in the form of OxygenOS 3.6.1, four months after OxygenOS 3.6.0 was released.

According to OnePlus, OxygenOS 3.6.1 for OnePlus 2 brings general bug fixes and improvements, updated Android security patch level to October 2017, and fixes for KRACK security vulnerability in WPA2 WiFi protocol.

The KRACK vulnerability in WiFi WPA2, makes it possible for attackers to eavesdrop on your web activities when you connect to WiFi, which may lead to a breach to one's privacy and loss of sensitive information such as credit card numbers, passwords, chat messages, emails, photos, and so on. You can read more about KRACK over here (https://www.krackattacks.com/)

Here are the changes for this build:
  • Updated Android security patch level to October 2017
  • Fixed WPA2 security issue
  • General bug fixes and improvements
As always, this OTA will be incremental, and reach a small percentage of users today, followed by a broader roll out in the coming days.

However, the OTA files are available for download and manual installation, for those who can't wait for the OTA update to reach their device.
