Snapdragon 810 Chip issues may delay launch of Next Gen Flagships
According to a report, the highly anticipated flagship models - Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4 and Sony Xperia Z4 may get delayed due to issues found with the Snapdragon 810. The processor is experiencing serious problems with the SoC which have been revealed in recent tests conducted by the company.
"Qualcomm is faced with hard-to-solve problems. The
Snapdragon 810 overheats when it reaches a specific voltage. It also slows down
owing to problems with the RAM controller connected to the AP. In addition,
there is an error in the driver of the Adreno 430 GPU," said an industry
source on December 2 to Business Korea.
If this is true, we have a long delay in the production of next generation flagships, thus affecting their availability in the market. However
Samsung and LG can rely on its own chip. Samsung have their own Exynos processor
whereas LG has NUCLUN which is facing
some difficulties. In the case of Sony, Motorola and Microsoft, this means a
late start to their repective flagship devices.
The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 reportedly includes four
Cortex A57 cores with four Cortex A53 cores. While the Cortex A57 is high-performance
cores while the Cortex A53 focus more on power efficiency. The cortex A57 and Cortex
A53 are clocked at 1.9GHz
and 1.5GHz respectively.
