CES 2015 : LG Smartwatch With WebOS Designed For Audi Teased
At the ongoing CES 2015, LG teased a new smartwatch exculsively designed
for Audi cars. The smartwatch looks similar to LG G watch and can
control the Audi car effortlessly. The smartwatch was showcased by Audi
at its Booth.
The premium-looking smartwach designed for LG runs webOS and not the Android wear [reported by Android Central]. The smartwatch sports a new metal face along with a leather strap with three-button design. The official name and specifications of the smart watch are not known.
Whats is webOS ? webOS, is a Linux kernel-based OS for smart TVs, and formerly a mobile operating system. Initially developed by Palm, which was acquired by Hewlett-Packard, HP made the platform open source, and it became Open webOS. [From Wikipedia]
Audi's Board member Ulrich Hackenberg demonstrated a self-driving car on the stage with the help of the LG smartwatch he was wearing. In the demonstration the smartwatch was able to start the Audi Prologue's engine by a simple tap.
The smartwatch can also be used to drive the car for a short distance, lock the Audi car, tweak climate control settings and operate stereo. The watch connects with car through NFC. It also includes features from traditional smartwatch like monitoring driver's temperature and heart beat rate.
Audi also announced that it will work with Samsung and Nvidia to further advance the tech used in their cars.
