Facebook, Reliance Communications Bring Internet.org To India
Facebook announced a tie-up with Reliance Communications to launch the Internet.org initiative in India which will help affordable internet access to those who don't have access to internet in India. It will allow users to get access to basic services for free without any data charge on 2G and 3G networks.
The service has already been launch in countries like Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Ghana and Colombia. In India, the service will be available to Reliance subscribers in six states - Tamil Nadu, Mahararashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Kerala, and Telangana. These six states will have access to over three dozen services which include news, travel, jobs, sports, communication and more.
Reliance customers in India can access the services via Internet.org Android app available on the play store. It can also be accessed from start screen of Opera Mini browser or UC Browser. You can call the toll-free number 1800-3002-5353 to use the services.
The services will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Gujarati and Marathi languages. Here is the complete list of websites that can be accessed via Internet.org-
