Sony says 'only' entire Sony Xperia Z lineup to get Android Lollipop update
Last year Sony announced that its entire Xperia Z series of devices will receive Android 5.0 Lollipop update. Now there is bad news for owners of non-Xperia Sony devices.
According to Sony Xpeira's twitter handle Android Lollipop update will only be available for Xperia Z series smartphone. The tweet read "The Android 5.0 Lollipop update is only going to be available for the Xperia Z series, we do apologise.".
This could mean that Xperia devices like C3, E1, E3, M2, M2 Aqua, T2 Ultra and T3 will not be upgraded to Lollipop.The Exempted device here are the Xperia M4 Aqua that ships with Android 5.0 Lollipop and the recently launched budget smartphone E4 and EG which is expected to receive the Android Lollipop update soon.
Sony is also expected to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to Xperia series before the end of this month. as it confirmed on twitter that they still testing the Lollipop updates before pushing it to the public. The tweert read "We’re finalising our testing and remain focused on rolling the Android 5.0 Lollipop update out soon."
At MWC 2015, Sony Xperia Z3 device was spotted running the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop firmware. A video showing Android Lollipop OS running on the Xperia Z3 was also published online. The video shows off the changes Sony has included with the Lollipop update. Some of the changes that are clearly visible in the video are the new soft keys at the bottom, redesigned app icons, updated launcher, rebranded music app and a new notification menu with quick settings.
The Xperia Z devices that could receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop are the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, Xperia Tablet Z, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1s, Xperia Z Ultra, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z2 Tablet, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact and Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact.
