Nokia denies plans to re-enter smartphone market
Few days back, reports surfaced online that Nokia is planning to make a comeback to the consumer mobile market with Android Phones. Now, Nokia has denied the reports.
The Finnish company on its website released a statement stating that all such claims are false and currently has no plans to manufacture or sell handsets.
Here is the full text of Nokia’s statement released on its website:
"Nokia notes recent news reports claiming the company communicated an intention to manufacture consumer handsets out of a R&D facility in China. These reports are false, and include comments incorrectly attributed to a Nokia Networks executive. Nokia reiterates it currently has no plans to manufacture or sell consumer handsets."
Nokia is restricted from using its brand on phones until Q4 2016 under the deal that it struck with Microsoft last year.
However, Nokia did say it is planning to return to smartphone business by brand-licensing. A few months after Nokia sold its mobile division to Microsoft they launched a new brand-licensed tablet - N1, produced under license by Foxconn.
