Xiaomi Mi 4i now receiving MIUI v6.5.5.0 update, claimed to fix overheating issues

As expected, Xiaomi has started rolling out the MIUI v6.5.5.0 OTA system update for Mi 4i users. The update will bring fix for overheating issues that the device was experiencing.

The new system update brings optimization to improve performance and tweaks to the thermal control algorithms to resolve the overheating issues

Barra on his Facebook post said, "We've heard from some Mi 4i users that their devices can get warm under more strenuous conditions such as complex 3D gaming for extended periods of time. To address these concerns, we've optimised our thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. The new thermal controls adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature."

Barra also claimed that in the internal testing and pre-OTA release (in MIUI forum for beta testers), the temeperature of Mi 4i reduced without affecting the overall performance. He also confirmed that an earlier OTA release v6.5.4.0 for the Mi 4i was suspended last week after users reported software issues.

The Xiaomi Mi 4i was launched last month at a dedicated event in India. The phone received great response in terms of sale but shortly after it was found to overheat. According to some users the phone would overheat up to 47 degree when doing heavy gaming and up to 41 degree on normal usage.

Xiaomi Mi 4i features 5-inch IPS display with Corning scratch resistant glass, 64-bit octa-core processor Snapdragon 615 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, 13-megapixel rear camera, 5-megapixel front facing camera and 3120mAh battery. It runs Android 5.0 Lollipop based MIUI 6 and supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1 and GPS.
