Photo Story app for Windows Phone creates videos from photos
Microsoft has launched a new photo app for Windows Phone and Windows 10 Mobile dubbed Photo Story. It is a product of Microsoft Garage.
Photo Story automatically arranges the best representative photos of an event together and makes a themed video album featuring them. Users can also use staylised music to the video album. The app also offers editing and sharing tools and a plethora of transition effects to allow users to do everything without ever needing another photo editing app.
The app relies on machine learning and computer vision to auto-select the best photos, and generate the video. There is no risk of including low quality or duplicate photos in the video. Users have to choose a day, theme and music to create videos using the app. The app will then select the best photos of the day and create the video which can be shared via email or social network.
Photo Story’s algorithm isn’t just looking for technical quality, such as whether or not it’s blurry or the exposure is correct. It also evaluates for what is referred to as “interestingness.” Microsoft noted in a blog post. “You can also have a very high-quality photo of a road or a blade of grass, but that’s not necessarily interesting enough to qualify for the story, For example, if you took 200 photos, the algorithm understands that five may not be enough photos. Likewise, it doesn’t choose too many,”
Photo Story won't take much time to create a video as it does all the processing on the device itself, minimizing the waiting period wasted in uploads and downloads. The app supports voice command via Cortana, so if you say "Story from today" the photos you took today will be sorted within the app to automatically generate a video.
