Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 430, 617 chips for mid-range devices


Qualcomm announced its latest gen SOCs under Snapdragon 600 and 400 series- Snapdragon 617 and Snapdragon 430. The new chips are said to offer advances in multimedia and connectivity for mid-range mobile devices.

The Snapdragon 617 has an octa-core chip with 8 ARM Cortex A53 and CPUs clocked at 1.5GHz and packs Adreno 405 GPU. It offers X8 LTE capabilities with support for Cat 7 download speeds of up to 200Mbps and upload speeds of up to 100Mbps, and 2x20 carrier aggregation. It supports camera sensors up to 21MP, and also offers dual camera configurations. The CPU also supports up to full HD and wireless displays, up to full HD video recording at 60 fps, eMMC 5.1, LPDDR3 RAM, USB 2.0, SD 3.0 (UHS-I), and Bluetooth 4.1 + BLE.

Snapdragon 430 also has an octa-core chip with 8 ARM Cortex A53 CPUs clocked at 1.2GHz per core and packs Adreno 505 GPU which supports OpenGL ES3.1, OpenCL 2.0, and Android Extension Pack.. It offers X6 LTE with Cat 4 downlink speeds of up to 150Mbps and Cat 5 uplink speeds of up to 75Mbps via 64-QAM support. It also has camera sensors up to 21MP and offers dual camera configuration. Other features are same as Snapdragon 617.

Both the SoCs supports Qualcomm's new Quick Charge 3.0 and the power management technology is designed to support up to four times the charging speeds of traditional USB charging.

Devices utilising the Qualcomm's Snapdragon 430 will be available in Q2 2016, while the Snapdragon 617-based devices are expected by the end of this year.
