Snapdragon 820 to come with new X12 LTE modem


Qualcomm announced that the coming Snapdragon 820 SoC will feature the all-new X12 LTE modem which will provide CAT 12 down (600Mbps) and CAT 13 up (150Mbps) speeds and up to 4 x 4 MIMO downlinks while on LTE carriers.

The X12 LTE modem includes the most advanced LTE and WiFi features set than any other integrated modem.The X12 modem  includes Wi-Fi ac and, for the first time, Wi-Fi ad for transfers of up to 4.6Gbps in specific conditions. 

Qualcomm says the Snapdragon 820's cognitive capabilities, known as the Zeroth platform, will allow it to monitor Wi-Fi quality in real time and determine whether to switch calls from LTE to Wi-Fi and back.

The upgraded X12 LTE modem features:

  • Cat 12 (up to 600 Mbps) in the downlink
  • Cat 13 (up to 150 Mbps) in the uplink
  • Up to 4x4 MIMO on one downlink LTE carrier

Devices based on the Snapdragon 820 are expected to become available in the first half of next year.
