Xiaomi is working with Inventec to launch it’s first laptop, will ship early 2016

Xiaomi is said to be working on its first laptop. In an Interview with Taipei Time, Richard Lee, Chairman of Inventec, said that Xiaomi is partnering with Inventec to manufacture its first laptop and is likely to launch it by next year. Inventec have worked with Xiaomi in the past, handling the assembly of Xiaomi’s smartphones and tablets.

“I am upbeat about the business outlook for Xiaomi’s notebook computers, as the firm has more than 200 million registered smartphone users. We will start shipping Xiaomi’s notebook computers in the first or second quarter of next year”, said Richard Lee.

Lee expects Xiaomi to shakeup the laptop market the same way it did with smartphones. "I am not sure if the smartphone approach will be applicable to notebooks, but I expect Xiaomi's entry into the notebook industry to bring something new to the market. We will start shipping Xiaomi's notebook computers in the first or second quarter of next year," he added.

A recent report by  Bloomberg suggested that Xiaomi was hoping to produce a laptop range that would compete with Apple’s MacBook Air range.

As far as the pricing is concerned, Lee further noted that the laptop will sport an affordable price tag, similar to the brand’s other devices. Previous report had stated that Xiaomi's laptop will cost 2999 Yuan ($470).

At the moment there are no official details regarding it specs or which OS will it run on. One feature being speculated is that the laptop will sport 15-inch display.

Last year, it was reported that Xiaomi is working on a laptop. But later Xiaomi spokesperson denied the reports. In addition the photo that leaked earlier was also a fake and was being used for representational purposes.
