Xiaomi's laptop to come in two screen sizes, enters mass production Q1 2016

When we hear the name Xiaomi, the first thing comes to our mind is, what the company will offer next. The Chinese brand which has forayed into several new segments, including health, networking kit, sports and lifestyle gear, may soon make its entry into the PC market. Last month, Xiaomi's manufacturing partner Inventec Corp's Chairman Richard Lee confirmed that Xiaomi was working on a laptop and Inventec was manufacturing it. Now more details of the laptop has emerged online.

According to a new published report, Xiaomi's first laptop will come in two model- 12.5-inch and 13.3-inch- and enter mass production in the Q1 2016, which is line with last months report. The laptop are expected to offer a "price-performance" ratio as as high as brands smartphone products.

The report further added that, Xiaomi has place orders for about 250,000 units for the 12.5-inch model and 500,000 units for the 13.3-inch model. Inventec is tasked to produce the 12.5-inch model units, while Taiwan's Compal Electronics--a contract manufacturer of PCs, will manufacture the 13.3-inch model.

Xiaomi pans to ship the laptop in a bundle package with a smartphone, a move that will promote both the products lineup and could pose a great threat to competitors- one of them could be Lenovo. Xiaomi is headhunting Lenovo executives to quickly mark its dominance in the laptop market.

Last month, reports have purported that Xiaomi's first laptop will run Linux-based operating system  instead of Windows. The reports also alleged that the base variant of the laptop introduced to the market will cost CNY 2999 (Rs. 31,000 | $475).
