Chennai floods: Airtel offers free talk time and mobile data to help people in affected areas


The unprecedented rains and floods in Chennai, have disrupted normal life and restricted people's movement from homes. In order to facilitate communication, Airtel has announced that it is offering free talk time, Airtel-to-Airtel calling minutes and mobile data for prepaid users. In addition, Airtel postpaid and landline subscribers are getting an extended time limits to pay due bills.

To help people reach officials and their loved ones, mobile major Bharti Airtel is offering
  • Auto approval of ‘Talk Time’ credit upto Rs. 30 for all Airtel prepaid mobile customers (Dial 52141 or *141*10#)
  • Free of cost Credit of 10 minutes of Airtel-to-Airtel calling for prepaid mobile customers with a validity of 2 days
  • Free of cost Credit of 50MB mobile data for Airtel prepaid mobile customers with a validity of 2 days
  • Airtel postpaid and fixed line customers whose bills are due to be paid immediately will get an extended time to make the payment and will experience uninterrupted services
There are power failures in Chennai due to excessive water logging, impacting mobile services in some areas. Airtel stated that it is relentlessly working with local authorities to enable smooth mobile communication for Airtel customers across Chennai.

Chennai is India's major auto manufacturing and IT outsourcing hub for companies including Ford Motor, BMW AG, Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services and Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp.
