Raspberry Pi Zero is a $5 tiny computer

Raspberry Pi, known for its miniature computer outed the Raspberry Pi Zero last week, its cheapest computer to date. Priced at just $5 (Rs. 320), it is also the smallest Pi computer measuring just 65mm x 30mm x 5mm.

The Raspberry Pi Zero has Broadcom's BCM2385 application processor clocked at 1GHz ARM 11 core and is said to be 40 percent faster that its counterpart at Raspberry Pi 1. It packs 512MB LPDDR2 SDRAM and microSD card for storage. It runs Rapbian, a Linux based OS, as well as applications that teach coding skills -- such as Minecraft, Scratch and Sonic Pi.

Connectivity features include mini-HDMI socket that supports 1080p video output, two micro USB ports (one for power, and one for data), a 40-pin GPIO header and a composite video header. There is no standard USB port or Ethernet port, so you will have to purchase an additional hub to be able to connect your devices or peripherals to it.

The Raspberry Pi Zero can be purchased in the U.S from Adafruit and in United Kingdom from element14, The Pi Hut and Pimoroni. It has already sold out online within a day. There is no word on Indian availability.

The Raspberry Pi products has been gateway into programming for many people due to its low cost. The Raspberry Pi Model B, Raspberry Pi 1 and other models cost about $25-30 and is affordable for almost everyone. The new model has been priced very aggressively.

Interestingly, a Raspberry Pi equipped product is currently up on crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. Dubbed Poco Supercomputer, it is an open source completely hackable device. It has three Micro USB ports, microHDMI out port, microSD card slot, two joysticks inlets and a range of sensors. The company says that Poco Supercomputer can be used can be used as a portable media player, fitness tracker or any other things, as users see fit.
