Samsung Gear VR headset launched in India for Rs. 8,200

Besides launching the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic smartwatches, Samsung also launched the Gear VR headset. The virtual reality headset is powered by Facebook owned Oculus VR software and comes with a soft, flexible cushioning material, and adjustable straps to make it comfortable to wear.

Samsung's Gear VR headset is compatible only with Galaxy Note5, Galaxy Note5 Dual SIM, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+ smartphones. The compatible phones can be snapped into the Gear VR headset to experience 3D effect via dual lenses while watching movies or playing games.

It is 19 percent lighter as compared to the previous Gear VR model and features an improved touchpad that offers easier control to access content such as films, games, 360 degree video and exclusive Gear VR contents. It comes with a field of view of 96 degrees and includes sensors such as gyro, accelerometer and proximity, and can be charged via Micro USB.

Contents for the Gear VR headset like games, apps and 360 videos can be downloaded from the Oculus store, which has over 150+ games and apps.

The Samsung Gear VR (Frost White color) is priced at Rs. 8,200 and will be available online via Flipkart and offline stores including Croma and Reliance Digital.
