Xiaomi Mi 5 with Snapdragon 820 SoC to launch post Chinese Spring Festival
Following Qualcomm's announcement that Letv Le Max Pro will be the first Snapdragon 820 powered smartphone, Xiaomi has revealed that its flagship, the Mi 5 will pack the Snapdragon 820 SoC as well.
The news was confirmed by Xiaomi Co-Founder and Senior VP Laiwan Jiang via Weibo. He also revealed that the Mi 5 has entered mass production and it will have enough stock at the time of the release. Jiang also revealed that the Xiaomi Mi 5 will launch after the Spring Festival, which starts on Febraury 8 and last 15 days.
"The Xiaomi Mi 5 with the latest Snapdragon 820 processor is ready and in volume production. It will be released after the Spring Festival to have enough time for stocking up." read the Weibo post.
According to previous leaks, the Mi 5 features a 5.2-inch display with either Full HD or QHD resolution. It will be equipped with 16-megapixel rear camera and 13-megapixel front facing camera. It is said to run MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and fueled by 3600mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support. As per leaked renders the Mi 5 comes with a home button, which doubles as fingerprint sensor.
The Mi 5 is rumored to come in two RAM / ROM models - 3GB RAM w/ 32GB storage, which could be priced CNY 1999 (Rs. 20,000) and 4GB RAM / 64GB storage priced at CNY 2299 (Rs. 23,500). It will be available in Black, Gold, Pink and White colors.
