Ather Energy S340 is a smart electric scooter, that's Made in India
Bengaluru based startup Ather Energy has unveiled ‘India’s first smart scooter’ called Ather S340. The startup is founded by IITians Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, and has received funding from Flipkart and Tiger Global founders. The scooter will be manufactured in India.
The Ather Energy is powered by a Lithium Ion battery embedded in the base of the scooter and offers max speed of 72kmph, and a range of up to 60kms in a single charge.
The electric scooter comes with digital tocuhscreen dashboard that integrates cloud based data, to allow users to create personalized profiles, choosing riding models and set other riding preferences. It also offers Vehicle Control Unit that constantly monitors behavior of the rider, an indicator showing the scooter's battery status and GPS. The dashboard can be integrated with the S340 Mobile App that keeps the rider connected with the scooter.
Ather Energy says that “The inbuilt navigation works very differently from the plain vanilla mapping that is available in other vehicles. The map uses data to not only predict the time taken to reach a destination but will also analyse the road conditions. They will also add data on charging points on the route and time taken to reach a destination based on driving patterns and use.”
The electric scooter is capable of fast charging, providing 80 percent charge in under 50 minutes. It is also equipped with IP67-rated battery that is claimed to have a life cycle of 50,000 kms and a life span of 5-6 years. The scooter can be charged from any 5A normal socket in normal mode.
The production of Ather S340 will being by end of this year. The test rides will begin in the next few months at Ather Energy's upcoming experience centers. Ather Energy will start taking pre-booking order for the Ather S340 in three cities- Bengaluru, Pune and Chennai in the next quarter. The company will embrace an online-only purchase model with doorstep delivery and service.
