BlackBerry is the first OEM to release monthly Android security patches along with Google

After the discovery of Stagefright vulnerability on Android devices, Google and various OEMs committed to deliver monthly security updates in order to avoid exposing users from new threats.

BlackBerry one the OEM after the launch of 'Priv' promised also promised to roll out the monthly security update for the device. Now four months after Google started releasing monthly security updates, BlackBerry has announced that it is the first OEM to actually deliver the update.

BlackBerry posted a chart that shows the Canadian company is the only one to deliver security patches with no delays, as soon as Google makes them available, whereas other OEMs have been late, in pushing the security patches. In the chart the green indicates no delay between public disclosure and patch availability; Yellow indicates patch available within a week of exposure; red indicates patch available after more than a week not yet at all.

"BlackBerry is the first OEM to deliver patches in line with Google's public disclosure, closing the window of vulnerability exposure to customers. Other mobile device vendors can take weeks, months or even years to deliver security patches, leaving you and your business at risk. BlackBerry's steadfast commitment to timely security updates is just one of the many reasons why BlackBerry continues to be the undisputed leader in mobile privacy and security." says the company in a blog post.
