Reliance Jio starts shipping 4G SIMs to Reliance Digital stores, launch imminent

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) subsidary, Jio Infocomm launched its 4G services for its employees in December last year. On of the biggest mystery is when the service will start rolling out to public. Now it appears that the company is gearing up for the launch of its 4G services to the public soon.

The Hindu Business Line reports that Jio may be getting ready to soft-launch its 4G services this week. The company has also started shipping 4G SIMs to Reliance Digital along with Customers Application Forms (CAF) across the country. The SIM card are expected to cost Rs. 200.

Reliance Jio will offer free 4G SIMs to buyers of its LYF smartphones and other 4G phones throughout the country, with a focus on metro cities. To remind you Reliance has already started selling VoLTE-ready LYF-branded smartphones in the country a while ago.

The report adds that the Jio's 4G service will be initially tested on certain customers. After receiving a 4G SIM, the customers will be able to activate the SIM within four hours if they have already submitted CAFs. Once the SIM is activated, customers can start using 4G services. Unfortunately, Reliance will not roll out VoLTE services just yet.

There are also reports that suggest that Reliance Jio has also started shipping 4G enabled WiFi dongles to Reliance Digital stores. The Jo Mi-Fi devices are expected to be priced at around Rs. 700-800.

Reliance Jio has pan India 2300MHz and 1800MHz spectrum in 14 circles. Currently the exact date of the rollout of 4G services is not known.
