Apple's 2017 iPhone lineup to include AMOLED display and glass back
Apple's 2017 iPhone lineup is reportedly getting a major design change. According to KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone model, which is being planned for 2017, will have a design similar to iPhone 4, and Apple is expected to ditch the aluminum casing for a glass back panel.
In addition to glass back, the 2017 iPhone lineup is said to feature AMOLED display. Kuo states that although the glass back casing will make the iPhone heavy, the use of AMOLED screen will compensate for the added weight.
The AMOLED display helps in power management and is usually used by Samsung's smartphone. Recently a report said that Apple has made an $2.6 billion agreement with Samsung for the same. The deal is expected to initiate in 2017.
Kuo also added that, currently 100 percent iPhones are made with aluminum bodies, and expects the number to drop by 40 percent or less following the launch of 2017 iPhone lineup.
The report mentions that some investors are concerned that the use of glass back on iPhone will be too heavy or fail drop test. However, Kuo believes that the return of glass casing will not be an issue for Apple, as it will be more durable than metal case.
