BSNL to launch 4G service in 14 telecom circles

State owned telco  BSNL is the latest telecom company to join the 4G market as it is reportedly set to roll out its 4G LTE services in 14 telecom circles, reports PTI.

Currently BSNL offers 2G and 3G services in 20 circles of the total 22 telecom circles in India, and bought 2500 MHz spectrum in all the 20 circles to offer 4G services, but later returned airwaves to six circles including Gujarat, Kolkata, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.

In the remaining 14 circles BSNL has 20 MHz spectrum in 2,500MHz band. The telecom operator recently had a soft launch of its 4G services in Chandigarh, where it demonstrated speed of up to 35mbps. However it is not known when the commercial roll out will begin.

Bharti Airtel, Vodafone and Idea Cellular are currently the major 4G service providers in the country and have expanded their 4G network to many key circles. But it's Reliance Jio's 4G service that is being eagerly awaited in the country.
