Xiaomi invests in Hungama Digital, its first investment in India

Xiaomi forayed into Indian market two years ago and already sells Mi branded smartphones, tablets and accessories in country. Now the China based smartphone manufacturer is exploring other options in India, as the company has led a $25 million investment into Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, it first investment in an India based company.

The investment could help Xiaomi, boost its localized Internet services efforts in the country and integrate Hungama's services on its devices, or in finding additional revenue sources.

Xiaomi in the press release said that it will 'integrate' Hungama's content services including themes and ringtones in its platform in the near future. Xiaomi did not mention about Hungama’s video content including movies in the press release.

With the penetration of 4G on mobile networks in the country, Xiaomi expects more and more consumption of digital media through its devices. The company mentioned that it is looking forward to understand the content sector in the country.

Hungama has partnerships with more than 700 content creators and has over 65 million monthly active users across its music, video and movies platform.
