Namotel Acche Din is world's cheapest smartphone at Rs. 99, Ringing Bells again?

A new India-based startup called Namotel claims to have launched the world's cheapest smartphone at Rs. 99 called Acche Din (Good Days). This is not the first time a company is launching an ultra-affordable smartphone in the country, earlier Ringing Bells and Docoss also launched smartphones with decent specs and lower price, but is yet to ship the phones to the customers.

Namotel is based in Bengaluru and began it operations earlier this year. Namotel claims that it was established under the under the auspices of the 'Make in India' campaign, and also claims to have offices in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi and Chennai.

Acche Din is now available available to pre-book on the company website till May 25, with no mention on shipping details. The phone's original price is Rs. 2,999, but will be available for Rs. 99 under special launch offer. Interested buyers will have to register on bemybanker.com website, and pay a one-time lifetime membership fee of Rs. 199. The stocks of the phone will be limited and is available only to Indian citizens who hold Aadhar identity. The vendor will charge a delivery fee, and offer cash on delivery option.

In addition to Acche Din, Namotel has also listed four other smartphones on company website, ranging from Rs. 1,999 for the 4G LTE-enabled Aazadi to Rs. 1,99,999 for the VVIP luxury smartphone.

Much like Freedom 251 and Docoss X1, the specs on offer are to hard to believe considering the price. The Namotel Acche Din comes with 4-inch WVGA display, 1.3GHz quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, 4GB inbuilt expandable storage, 2MP/0.3MP cameras, dual SIM slots, 1325mAh battery and runs Android 5.1 Lollipop. The listing on the company website mentions that “Pictures shown on website is for illustration purposes only,” and at the time of writing the website was suspended, which casts doubts on the credibility of the phone and the company. #StayAway
