YUs next flagship is called Yunicorn, launch set for May 19

Micromax sub-brand YU just recently started teasing its new flagship smartphone. Now YU has announced that its second flagship device after Yutopia will be called Yunicorn. That's not all, the flagship will be unveiled at an event in Delhi on June 19.

The Yunicorn launch press invite reads “Fantasy will soon become reality. Join us in the unveiling of the phone that will redefine flagships”. Earlier YU co-founder Rahul Sharma said that the YU Yunicorn is "insanely beautiful and it will break some hearts. It will break records, it will break the conventional, it will break the rules...WAIT, it will break the flagships."

According to reports YU Yunicorn will flaunt a premium metal body and come with 5.5-inch 1080p display and run stock Android (Android Marshmallow) instead of CyanogenOS. YU's Around YU service will be deeply integrated into the Android OS. As for the other specs, a YU smartphone with model number YU5530 was spotted on benchmarks with MediaTek Helio X10 SoC and 4GB RAM. It is expected to be priced below Rs. 15,000.

YU's last flagship was Yutopia that launched at a price of Rs. 24,999. The phone boasted of great design and hardware specs including 5.2-inch 2K display, Snapdragon 810 SoC, 4GB RAM, 21MP/5MP front camera, unfortunately it was ruined by poor software integration.

Earlier this week Sharma announced the end of YU's exclusive partnership with Cyanogen in India. He also said that the successor of YU's popular mid-range devices Yuphoria and Yunique are in the pipeline and will launch by the end of this year. Last month YU launched the 6-inch Yureka Note smartphone in the country for Rs. 13,499.
